I have been buying and selling homes under Anita's guidance for twenty years. The most difficult sell was shortly after my husband died and I really needed someone I could trust because I was doing it all for the first time on my own. We got caught in a bidding war on the sale and again on the purchase so I was most appreciative of Anita's knowledge and down to earth advice and always calm manner. Plus I like her sense of humour. Her advice extends beyond the real estate deal and expands to cover references for roofers, plumbers, painters etc as well as information on the new area. We were both at a party one Christmas and someone I'd just met said she's recently sold her house and had a great realtor. I asked her realtor's name and the woman couldn't remember it! I'll tell you this much: I'll always remember Anita's name and will faithfully recommend her and her services to everyone.

When I first met Anita, I knew right away that she was terrific at what she does. We sold my mother's house and subsequently bought another house. The whole process was as trouble-free as it could be with Anita's smooth and sophisticated, yet down-to-earth assistance and advice. When Anita got to know me a little more, she found out that I work at Frontier College, Canada's original literacy organization since 1899. At Frontier College, our mission is to help children, youth and adults reach their potential at home, at work, in school and in their communities through increased literacy skills. This goal spoke to Anita immediately as she understands how communities are built on the strength of the people who live in them. Anita has financially supported Frontier College since we met, over 9 years ago. She gives her time and her money and she recommends the organization to her friends and acquaintances. We are very honoured to have Anita as one of our on-going supporters, who understands the power of literacy for individuals and communities.

When I see the word Community I see Anita Merlo. Anita has been a consistent and committed donor to Ernestine’s Women’s Shelter since 2006. She recognizes the struggles of women and children escaping violence and supports our efforts to end the violence forever. Not only has she donated much needed furniture and household supplies for women starting over, her monetary contributions ensures that we continue to assist all women in need of our services. Anita doesn’t wait for us to ask, this past August she came to us ready to help send the children residing at the shelter back to school, she bought school supplies and provided clothing gift cards. She knew how special the first day of school is for every child but also what children in a shelter might be experiencing during this very important moment during a very difficult time in their young lives.
